Series: Ocean voyages

The oldest known nautical chart dates from the end of the 13th century, but nautical charts began to appear in earnest from the 15th century.

This Ocean voyages series is represented with marine animals and torn and glued nautical charts according to the artist's inspiration. The animal takes an inordinately majestic place to remind us that the ocean is its habitat and that it is the major player in this space. The lands are always present in these works but have a secondary role in reminding us that the oceans cover more than 70% of the surface of the planet and that they must be protected.

Ocean Voyages is an invitation to escape and discover an artistically reinvented habitat. Using nautical charts as a medium, Françoise Dagorn creates bridges between lands and oceans, between humans and nature, to better remind us that we are all linked.

In the marine world, black is synonymous with mystery and majesty. The depths of the sea do not let the sun's rays through, as if to protect themselves. This black represents the last mysterious refuge, a symbol of all that we do not know and of the humility that we must maintain in the face of the world that created us. Certain beauties of the oceans dare to approach us, as true ambassadors of their world. The manta ray dons its evening dress to offer us majestic ballets. Who can resist these voluptuous dances?
